Clarence Alfred Possingham, was born on the 9th of August 1894 in Inglewood, South Australia. He was the son of William Possingham and Elizabeth Tucker Watts and brother of Rosa, John, Willie, Veronica, Olive, Douglas, Doris, Marionette, Hyacinth, Vernon, Una, Erica, and Irwin. He worked as a nurseryman until he signed up to serve in World War 1.
On the 17th of January 1916, Clarence enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in Adelaide at the age of 21 years and 1 month. On his enlistment form, he was described as 5’8 (172.72cm) tall weighing 148Ibs (67kg) and having blue eyes, dark brown and a fair complexion.
After enlisting, Clarence was given the service number 2350 and was enlisted as a Private. He embarked 29th April 1916 on HMAT Botanist and served with the 3rd Light Horse in the Middle East.
Trooper Clarence Possingham was admitted to the Australian General Hospital on the 18th of September 1916 suffering from Hypertrophi. Then 31 days later, on the 17th of November 1916, he was admitted to the Soubra Hospital suffering with Diphtheria. He was transferred to convalescent depot, Boulac, Egypt on the 6th of December 1916, discharged to duty on the 30th of December 1916.
On the 26th of September 1931 Clarence married Mary Madeline Alcock and the marriage was held at St. Martins, Campbelltown, South Australia.
Clarence Alfred Possingham passed away on June 24th, 1952, in Mitcham, South Australia, Australia, at the age of 57. He is commemorated at the Centennial Park Cemetery Pasadena.
