Private Clive Edwin Crowhurst (Service No:NX13292) enlisted in the AIF on 26 April 1940 as a Private with 2/4 Infantry Battalion - Driver Mechanic. Private Crowhurst embarked with his his Unit from Sydney for Palestine on 31 August 1940, and from there to Greece on 26 March 1941 with HQ Guard Battalion. Captured by the Germans on Crete on 1 June 1941, Private Crowhurst was Reported Missing on 7 June 1941 and confirmed as a PoW of the Germans on 3 November 1941, held at Stalag VIIA (PoW No:92102). Private Crowhurst was held at Stalag XIII - C in Hammelburg, Stalag VIII - B (Stalag 344) in Lamsdorf, and Stalag VII - A in Moosburg. Private Croshurst stated (Liberated PoW Questionnaire 1945) that whilst a PoW he had been forced to work as a Street Sweeper in Munich in October 1941, and in a Carbide Factory in Konigsburg in 1942. Recovered from the Germans on 15 May 1945, Private Crowshurst embarked on 7 July 1945 from Liverpool for Sydney, where he was Discharged on 21 August 1945. Eldest son Frederick (Private; Service No:NX502991) served in the AIF from 14 May 1946 to 3 October 1947.

Clive was born in Peak Hill, NSW in 1906, eldest of three children of Frederick Crowhurst (b1876 in Parkes, NSW) and Lillian (Lillie) Margaret May Fish (b1885 in Orange, NSW). Frederick (a Gold Miner in partnership in the family firm of Crowhurst and Sons) and Lillie married in 1905 in Tomingley via Peak Hill, where they settled and raised their family and Frederick was in partnership in the family firm, which owned a range of businesses including Gold Mines, Hotels and Saw Mills. Following Frederick's death in 1912, Lillie worked in Peak Hill as a Draper before remarrying in 1916.

Clive worked as a Labourer and, in 1927 in Narromine NSW, married Olive Ray Hart (b1906 in Orange, NSW). Clive and Olive lived in Ophir and Orange, where they raised their family and Clive worked as a Labourer and General Carrier. Following his Discharge from the Army in 1945, Clive and Olive lived in Orange - where Clive was a Labourer - before settling in Woy Woy in the mid 1950's, where Clive was a Storekeeper until his death in 1969. Olive died in 2005.
