Charles Albert HOLSWICH was born in Mudgee, NSW in 1888

His parents were William HOLSWICH & Mary BAYLISS who married in Mudgee in 1881

He married Vita Grace BURWOOD in Mudgee Methodist Church on 26th February, 1911 - she died in Launceston, Tasmania on 30th October, 1970

He had previously served in the 2nd NSW Mounted Rifles with the instructional staff for the CMF & was a school teacher before he enlisted and later on became an orchardist

He enlisted in Melbourne on 10th November, 1914 & embarked from Melbourne on the HMAT Star of Victoria on 25th February, 1915

Charles was a Staff Sergeant Major in the 3rd Light Horse Brigade HQ and was one of the first Anzacs - he returned to Australia on 7th November, 1915 on the ship Runic and was discharged as medically unfit on 2nd May, 1916

Charles died of sudden illness in Dural, NSW on 26th March, 1935 and was cremated at Rookwood

His son Group Captain Lyle Charles Macquarie HOLSWICH was in the Royal Australian Air Force during WW2 and died on 10th December, 1945 in an aircraft accident in Labuan

His brother Cyril James HOLSWICH served during the Boer War (SN 292) and (SN 141) as a Trooper in the 3rd Regiment of the NSW Mounted Rifles
