From Woodford Academy - National Trust of Australia NSW
Former Woodford Academy schoolboy John Lyons Gray, was only 17 years of age when he enlisted for the Great War. He served in the desert in Palestine from 1917-1918.
In 1931, he published a rare personal account of his war experiences in Palestine titled 'Red Dust' under the pseudonym 'Donald Black'.
'Call of the Woodford Boy' is a poignant short film that explores the effect of the Great War through the lens of this young man's eyes.
Lest we forget.
