Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Arthur was the son of Lucy Caroline and the late Thomas Edward Jenner, of East Fremantle, Western Australia. He had been born in Semaphore, South Australia and at some stage his family moved to Western Australia. He was working at Watson Supply Stores when he enlisted. The business began with a grocery store and tea room in Fremantle.

Arthur was mortally wounded during the assault on Mouquet Farm by the 51st Battalion on 3 September 1916. He was one of very few wounded men who made it off the battlefield however he died of a penetrating shrapnel to his back the next day in the 44th Casualty Clearing Station.

“His late grandfather, George Jenner, was in the English army and fought in the Crimean War, received the medal with three clasps for the battles of Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol. Also, the Turkish medal.” (mother, Roll of Honour form)
