Austin Stanley Chalker was the son of Harry and Jane Chalker of Kingsdale, via Goulburn, New South Wales.

His older brother, 4922 Pte. Ernest Edward Chalker 45th Battalion AIF, only two months later, was killed in action on 15 October 1916, aged 27.
