Son of John Charles Chipper and Elizabeth Sophia de Ritter Chipper nee Constable of Brisbane Street, Perth, WA. Brother of George Frederick Chipper who returned to Australia on 16 November 1919 having served with the 28th Battalion
On 25 October 1919 Harold married Ethel Isabel Wolledge in St. Savoirs Church, Poplar, England
Commenced return to Australia on 18 December 1919 aboard HT Konigin Luise disembarking on 28 January 1920
