Son of Charles James and Josephine Salter of 1 Kent Street, Windsor, Victoria. Brother of Arthur George Salter who returned to Australia on 11 April 1916 having served with the 5th Battalion and Roy Stuart Salter who was killed in action on 19 July 1916 while serving with the 5th Battalion
