Biography contributed

Marjory Rigby was born in Sydney and grew up on Sydney’s North Shore and the Northern Beaches. Pre-war she worked as a Stenographer. She enrolled in the WRANS in February 1942 from the Women’s Emergency Signalling Corps and was attested in October the same year. Marjory was one of the few early WRANS who was not rated as a Telegraphist. Initially she was rated as a “Writer Teleprinter Operator” and later as a WRAN Writer.
Marjory served in HMAS Harman and Lonsdale and briefly with the Australian Women’s Army Service in Tasmania in mid-1946. She discharged from the WRANS in Hobart on the 16th of August 1946.
In 1948 Marjory married Warrant Officer 1 Bradley Hamilton Short 9th Division AIF NX116998.
Post war Marjory and Bradley lived in Bondi, Matraville, and Hillsdale in NSW where Bradley worked as a Public Servant.
Marjory passed away in Randwick on the 11th of February 2003 and was cremated at the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium where her ashes are interred. Bradley lived another decade before passing away in 2013 at the age of 99.
