28 June 1915 - Not to be claimed for further service in the RAN having joined to AIF. So endorsed SC forwarded to his brother for safe custody
1915 - A reward not exceeding £6 will be paid for the apprehension ot each of the abovenamed deserters. From H.M.A.S. “Encounter,” at Sydney.' On the 28th June, 1913.Frederick John Marven Syer, able seaman, born in Victoria, 21 years of age, 5 feet S inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion.
1916 - The warrant issued for the arrest of Frederick John Marven Syer, charged with deserting from H.M.A.S. “Encounter,” has been cancelled.
SYER.—Company Sergeant-Major Frederick John Marven (F. W. Loney), second eldest son of Sarah Ann and the late Harry Joseph Syer, of Geelong, killed in action in France 26th September, 1917. "Sleep on, thou good and faithful warrior."
