William was the eldest child of William and Henrietta. His birth is registered under the surname MELAN (Perth 1192/1888). His full name at birth was William Charles Isaac Empire, but he went by William Charles.
William had three sisters: Emma (aka Emily), Ethel and Ellenor.
Their mother died of fever aged 30 in 1898, soon after giving birth to his younger brother, Isaac Daniel, who also died. They are both interred at East Perth Cemetery.
William married Maud (Maudie) MARTIN in Perth in 1919 (reg. 100834). They had eight children; three sons served in WWII. William died in 1936.
