Son of John Ochiltree od Hunter Street, Newcastle, NSW and Mrs Ochiltree, Falconer Villa, Shankhouse, Cramlington, England.

Served a five year blacksmith apprenticeship with J. Hope of Belsay, Northumberland

Commenced return to Australia on 15 November 1918 aboard HT Port Darwin disembarking on 22 December 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney

During 1921c Charles married Elizabeth Jobson in Waratah, NSW
