Died on this date – 20th January.... Private Joseph Edward Coleman was born at Glen Innes, NSW in 1891. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 18th October, 1915 as a 24 year old Labourer from Armidale, NSW.
Private Joseph Edward Coleman embarked from Sydney on HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 14th April, 1916 with the 2nd Reinforcements, 1st Pioneer Battalion & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 11th June, 1916 where he would receive further training before being sent to the front.
Private Coleman was posted to Pioneer Training Battalion from A.S.C. (Army Service Corps)Training Depot, Parkhouse, Wiltshire on 4th September, 1916. He was appointed Acting Lance Corporal on 11th May, 1917 at A.S.C. Training Camp –as Provost Staff.
Private Coleman was admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, Wiltshire on 2nd November, 1917 & discharged to Convalescent Training Depot, Parkhouse on 12th November, 1917.
Private Coleman was re-admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, Wiltshire on 11th January, 1918 (Dangerously ill).
Private Joseph Edward Coleman died at 4.45 p.m. on 20th January, 1918 at 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, Wiltshire from Broncho Pneumonia. He was buried in Bulford Church Cemetery, Wiltshire where 14 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried.
