When Richard David Sullivan was born in 1888 in Victoria, his father, Richard, was 24 and his mother, Frances, was 28.

He married Sadie (Sarah) Brown in 1910 in his Victorian hometown. They had three children during their marriage. He died on 17 September 1979 at the age of 91, and was buried in Melbourne, Victoria.
