Steward William Redmond Hickey (Service No:PM4314) enlisted in the RAN on 25 March 1942. His service included HMAS Cerberus, Lonsdale, Horsham and Penguin and he was attached to HMAS Lonsdale when he was Discharged on 14 May 1946.

Born in 1919 in St Kilda in Melbourne Victoria, Bill was the seventh of nine children of John Patrick Cyril Hickey (b1875 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Mary Ellen Stewart (b1880 in Port Fairy, Victoria). John (a Traveller) and Mary married in 1905 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and John worked as a Traveller, Salesman and Agent.

Bill was a Salesman in Melbourne in 1942 when he married Lenzel Ella Freher (b1927 in Melbourne, Victoria) and enlisted in the RAN. Following his Discharge, Bill and Lenzel settled in Melbourne where Bill worked as a Salesman and a Wholesale Butcher. Bill died in 1993 and Lenzel in 2006.
