Sergeant Horace Arthur Hart has an entry in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour which says he was the son of Thomas Frederick Hart of Dunedin, New Zealand, Assistant Sub-Editor, Otago “Daily Times”. Horace was born in Ballarat, educated at Urquhart Street State School and was a builder and contractor. He joined the 7th Regiment Ballarat Militia in 1907 and joined the 8th Battalion AIF on the 5 August 1914, the day after the European War broke out. He took part in the landing on the 25 April 1915, during which he carried a wounded comrade two miles under heavy shell fire to a place of safety. He was killed in action on the Krithia Road 21 May 1915, being shot by a sniper when he was returning from fetching water for his platoon. He was buried off the Krithia Road but his grave was lost and he is remembered on the Helles Memorial.
