Biography contributed by VWM Australia

Private James Towe originally enlisted on, 10 August 1915 but without parental permission; his father wrote refusing consent on 19 August 1915, and Towe was discharged by 28 August 1915.

But officially the rules had changed at the start of July 1915 and the AIF was now taking 18-year-olds, James Towe knowing the rules re-joined on the 9th of September 1915. In 9 months, he would be one of the 1206 dead on the first day of the Battle of Fromelles.

We can only imagine his Father wished he had reconsidered.

Lest We Forget.
