ANZACS Returning Word has been received that Trooper Viv. McKenzie, of Cheviot, an Anzac, is expected to arrive in Yea. Trooper McKenzie was one of the first nineteen to enlist from Yea immediately war was declared by England against Germany. Prior to enlisting he was a member of the 15th Light Horse.

Viv was the second child (and eldest son) of James Alfred McKenzie (b1860 in Yea, Victoria and Emma Macklin (b1865 in Bungaree, Victoria). James - a Labourer - and Emma married in 1891 in Yea where they settled and raised their family.
Viv was a Labourer/Carter when he enlisted in the AIF in August 1914. He was a Trooper (Service No:299) with 4th Light Horse Regiment when he embarked in October 1914. Viv also served with 1st Australian Division Cavalry (March 1916), 22nd Light Horse Regiment (July 1916) and returned to Australia in October 1918. Viv was Discharged in February 1919.
Viv was a Driver in Cheviot, Yea, Victoria in 1920 when he married Johanna (aka Edith) Edith Paynter (b1895 in Ararat, Victoria). Viv and Edith settled at Chillingollah near Ultima, where Viv was a Farmer. By 1930 they had relocated to West Wyalong in the Hunter Region of NSW where Viv was a Farmer. By the early 1950s Viv and Edith relocated to Pine Grove in Quandialla near Bimbi, NSW where Viv was a Farmer. He died in 1976 and Edith died in 1998.
