Arthur attended the Royal Naval College for 4 years before enjoying a successful career in the Navy. His father, John Arthur Baxendell ran a private school at Redcliffe from early 1909 to about 1924. The Baxendells lived at Hurley House, Redcliffe, until well into the thirties. Edward Henzell Baxendell is a brother. Arthur married Paddy Thelma Hill. In his later years he lived in Limuru, Kenya.
