Add my storyBiography contributed by Matthew Rutkin
Norman Vincent Hayes was the second youngest of nine children of John Leslie Hayes and Alice Maria Conroy. Norman was a twin with a sister named Margaret Pauline but sadly she died as a baby.
During WW2 Norman served in the Royal Australian Navy aboard HMAS Adelaide, which mostly provided escort and patrol duties around Australia and New Guinea. After it returned to Sydney Harbour for a refit, Norman was aboard HMAS Adelaide when Sydney Harbour was infamously attacked by Japanese midget submarines on the night of 31 May 1942.
After the war, Norman lived at home with some of his siblings and their mother at Bellevue Hill in Sydney.
Norman was 35 when he married Joyce Agnes Hastie at Mosman. They had no children.
Norman died in his sleep while holidaying in the USA. He was 54.
