About This Unit
7 Field Battery was a sub-unit of of the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade (/explore/units/85) (which in today's parlance is the equivalent of a Field Regiment).
The Field Artillery Brigades started life in direct support of the Brigade that corresponded with their numeric designation; in this case the 3rd Infantry Brigade comprising Battalions from the smaller 'outer' states; the 9th (Qld) 10th (SA) 11th (WA) and 12th (Tas).
As the war progressed control of Artillery was centralised and elevated, and the organisation and equipment underwnt a range of iterations.
