Vale John Douglas TILBROOK CSM, RFD 1945-2025

We remember Major John Douglas TILBROOK CSM, RFD who passed away last week on June 6 at the age of 80.

John dedicated over 51 years to the Australian Army, rising through all ranks from Private to Major, and serving until his retirement in 2015.

His distinguished military career included service in Borneo during the Indonesia–Malaysia Confrontation, in Vietnam, and with the ANZUK Force in Singapore/Malaysia.

As a Research Officer with the Australian Army History Unit, John contributed extensively to documenting and preserving military history, including cataloguing records and supporting the Department of Veterans' Affairs with thousands of research reports. Recognised for his work, he was awarded the Conspicuous Service Medal in 1997.

Beyond his military and historical work, John also gave back through long-term involvement with Canberra Legacy, the Batemans Bay RSL Sub-Branch, and the Vietnam Veterans' & Peacekeepers Association.

The Virtual War Memorial Australia team extends its sincere condolences to John's family and friends for their loss.

We will remember him.
