20 Jul 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads: On 14 May 1917, when his Sergeant was wounded, this private took charge of the four squads at the No. 2 R.A.P. on the left of Queant and carried on the evacuation of the wounded under the persistent barrage fire of the enemy. In spite of casualties among his squads, he reorganised them and by grit, determination and presence of mind coped with all the casualties in his area under the most trying conditions. his gallant bearing had a splendid effect in rousing the men under him to persevere in the work of evacuating wounded under very heavy fire.
