Kiffin Marshall enlisted in the 3rd Light Horse Regiment and served with them at Gallipoli from May 1915. He was evacuated to England during September 1915 with influenza and dysentery. He returned to Egypt in early 1916 and was wounded at Romani, with a gunshot to the knee, which resulted in a compound fracture of the tibia. He was returned to Australia in December 1916 and discharged medically unfit.

He enlisted again during March 1918 and reached England during late 1918 without being sent to the front again. He returned to Australia in September 1919.
