Son of Thomas Henry Villis and Kathleen Villis nee Chillcott of Bridgewater, Somerset, England.
Prior to coming to Australia from England Edward had been a member of the Bridgewater Rifle Club for three years. Brother of T. Villis who served with the British Imperil Army with the rank of Private.
Commenced return to Australia on 8 April 1918 aboard HT Port Darwin
