George Priestly was born on 1 October 1879 in South Australia, Australia. To Harriot and Priestly Hillam. He married Lydia Jesser on 23 August 1905 in Baroota, South Australia, Australia. They had two children during their marriage. When the first world war broke out George enlisted in the Australian Army and was part of The AIF on, 27 June 1916, he was placed into the 43rd Battalion,and obtained the rank of Private.After he completed his basic training George and his Unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board the HMAT A68 Anchises on 28 August 1916.
Sadly George died on 31 July 1917 in Wimereux, Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 37. From illness, and was buried there, leaving his wife a widow and his children fatherless as so many soldiers did.
