Born William Hamblyn Hese but always referred to as Wilhem Hese.
Son of Henry Hese and Ernestine Hese nee Tothek of Caloote, SA. Brother of Theodore Carl Hese of 1st to 6th SA Reinforcements who returned to Australia after troopship was recalled

Commenced return to Australia on 27 August 1917 aboard HTNZ Pakeha disembarking on 20 October 1917 for discharged to blindness in one eye
