Bendigonian (Bendigo, Vic. : 1914 - 1918), Thursday 31 October 1918, page 21.

PRIVATE ALAN STEPHENS Mrs. M. J. Stephens, of Leslie-street, Eaglehawk. has received information from Defence department that a court of inquiry has arrived at a decision that her son, Private Alan Stephens, was killed in action on 30th April, 1915, in Gallipoli. Private Stephens was at the landing in Gallipoli. His mother received a letter from her son dated 7th April, 1915, but has not since had any tidings of him and has been kept in a state of suspense ever since. At her request the Defence department had inquiries made and it would appear that he fell in the memorable fighting following the landing at Gallipoli.

Brother 732 Pte Francis Dyer Stephens 7th Battalion AIF, killed in action, 14 April 1918.
