Claude Edison Thomas played 13 games (1914-15) for the South melbourne FC in the VFL prior to enlistment.

Pte 12626 Claude Thomas was killed in action by a German shell during the attack on Vaire Wood, Hamel on 5 July 1918.

THOMAS.- Killed in action on July 5, 1918, Pte. Claude Edison, 14th Battalion, fourth dearly loved son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. P. Thomas, "St. Anbyn," 14 Mary street, St. Kilda; also loved brother of Mrs. Yeend, Horace, Victor, Harold, Mrs. Stansfield, Mrs. Hughes, Clarence (on active service), Stan (on active service), and Mavis, aged 27 years.
