War Service/Promotions: Wounded in Action and admitted to HMS Delta with a gunshot wound to his back. On 12 August 1915 he was admitted to No.8 General Hospital, Ghazera. On 21 August he was transferred to Mena Convalescent Hospital, then 3 days later on 24 August he was transferred to Alexandria, and admitted to the Convalescent Hospital, Montarrah, and transferred for 7 days light duty to Mustapha. On 4 September he embarked on the Negantic, arrived in Mudros on 8 September where he was admitted to Base details. He remained at Gallipoli in the Refts. Camp from the 12 to 14 September, the rejoined his battalion on 15 September. On 7 October 1915 he was admitted to the Field Ambulance and then transferred to 3rd Australian General Hospital at Mudros; transferred to Lowlands Casualty Clearing Station on 12 October and then to a convalescent camp the same day. On 14 October he rejoined his Battalion. On 29 October he disembarked at Alexandria ex Mudros. On 6 February 1916 to School of Instruction, Zeitoun. He was Taken on Strength 4th Battalion 12 March 1916. Then on 22 March embarked for overseas ex Alexandria, disembarking at Marseilles, France, on 28 March. On 5 September he was admitted to 1st. Australian Field Ambulance with broncho-pneumonia, and transferred to D.R. Station; by 16 September he was discharged to duty. He proceeded on leave to the United Kingdom on 16 December 1917, rejoining from leave on 2 January 1918. On 27 June 1918 he was wounded in action for a second time and admitted to 15th Australian Field Ambulance with gas burns (yellow). On the 7 July he was admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Abbeville, with gas burns to his feet and influenza. He was then transferred to the 2nd Stationary Hospital, Abbeville on 2 August 1918, embarked for England on 12 August 1918, and the same day was admitted to Middlesex War Hospital, England, with gas burns - slight. By 28 August 1918 he was discharged to Littlemoore Camp, where he was marched in to No.2 company deport, Weymouth from hospital. On 30 October he was admitted to the military hospital, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, with influenza, being discharged on 9 November. He left England for return to Australia on 2 January 1919. He was discharged from the AIF at Sydney - termination of period of enlistment on 16 April, 1919.

Fate: Returned to Australia per HT Berrima, 2 January 1919, arriving at Melbourne, Vic. on 17 February 1919, then on to Sydney, NSW. He married Hilda Elizabeth Piggott, 1920, Sydney, NSW.
