Born in Gateshead-on-Tyne in England, Albert Watson left England for Australia in 1912. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces with his younger brother Joseph during July 1915 and embarked Australia in late 1915. Both brothers transferred to the 46th Battalion in Egypt during March 1916. Albert was killed in action at Pozieres on 14 August 1916. He was buried in France. His younger brother Joseph was killed in action during July 1917.

Albert left behind a wife, Isabella, and a son Andrew, born in 1913 in Melbourne. Andrew served with the 2/2nd Pioneer Battalion during WW2 and died of wounds 20 June 1941, in Syria. He was buried in the Khayat Beach War Cemetery, Haifa, Israel.
