17 Jun 1919: Honoured Military Medal, "The Last Hundred Days", For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the attack west and north of BRAY on the morning of the 22nd August, 1918, the enemy was subjecting our troops to heavy barrage fire. Acting on his own initiative this soldier left his entrenched gun position on three separate occasions to bring in wounded comrades to a place of safety. 2742 Private (Pte) Cecil Fisher, 3rd Pioneer Battalion from Footscray, Victoria. An 18 year old carpenter prior to enlisting on 26 March 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 6th Reinforcements of the 58th Battalion from Melbourne on 2 October 1916 aboard HMAT Nestor. While undergoing further training in England, he transferred to the 3rd Pioneer Battalion and was detached for railway construction work. He joined the 3rd Division Machine Gun Battalion in France on 5 June 1918 and was awarded a Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry in bringing in the wounded during an attack near Bray on 22 August. Pte Fisher was wounded in action on 23 August and evacuated to England for medical treatment. His wounds were such that he was returned to Australia, arriving on 5 February 1919. Cecil was one of 8 brothers who enlisted and served in the AIF.
