Phillip Harris Oldfield McARDELL was born in 1883 in Invercargill, New Zealand

His parents were John Orson Oldfield McARDELL and Christina Isabel PURKISS who married on 22.9.1875 in Hobart, Tasmania

He enlisted on 30th December 1915 with the 11th Battalion, 15th re-inforcements - Unit embarked from Fremantle, WA on HMAT Ulysses on 1st April, 1916

He was Killed in Action on 15th July, 1917 - last unit - 51st Battalion and is buried in Mud Corner Cemetery in Belgium

His brothers ( Captain ) John Orson Oldfield McARDELL (Junior) also served in WW1 and returned to Australia in 1919 and brother Private Lionel Clarence McARDELL, 28th Battalion  returned to Australia in 1916
