Willaim Walter DAY enlisted in the 7th Reinforcements of the 27th Infantry Battalion, on 3 August 1915.

He embarked withe rest of his reinfrocement draft at Port Adelaide on 12 January 1916.

Embarked Alexandria, Egypt, to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 March 1916; disembarked, Marseilles, France, 27 March 1916; proceeded to join the 1st Anzac Entrenching Bn, Etaples, 25 June 1916; proceeded to join unit, 10 July 1917; taken on strength, 13 July 1916.

Admitted to 4th Australian Field Ambulance (gun shot wound: legs), 5 August 1916; to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 6 August 1916; to England, 9 August 1916; discharged from Hospital on furlough, 26 October 1916, to report to Perham Downs Command Depot; marched into Perham Downs Command Depot, 13 November 1916.

Found guilty, 13 March 1917, of (1) being absent without leave from 9 pm, 16 February 1917, until 9 pm, 9 March 1917: awarded 17 days' detention; forfeits a total of 42 days' pay.

He was then transferred to and taken on strength of 70th Bn (a training unit), Wareham, 7 April 1917; transferred to 27th Bn, 19 September 1917; proceeded overseas to France via Southampton, 14 October 1917; marched into 2nd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Havre, 15 October 1917; proceeded to join unit, 18 October 1917; taken on strength of 27th Bn, Belgium, 20 October 1917; to Paris on leave, 19 March 1918; rejoined unit, 31 March 1918.

Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance (shrapnel wound: ankle), 9 August 1918; to 20th Casualty Clearing Station, 9 August 1918; to 9th United States General Hospital, Rouen, 11 August 1918; to England, 13 August 1918; admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, England, 16 August 1918; to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 26 August 1918; discharged, 29 August 1918, on furlough to report to Hurdcott Command Depot on, 12 September 1918.

He was admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital (venereal disease), Bulford, 12 September 1918; discharged to Parkhouse, 3 December 1918, total period of venereal disease: 83 days'.

He was admitted to 1st Australian War Hospital (venereal disease), 30 December 1918, discharged, 6 January 1919, total period of venereal disease: 8 days'.

Marched into Sutton Veny Command Depot, 7 January 1919; attached to permanent cadre of Perham Downs Command Depot and promoted to temporary Corporal, 15 January 1919; eligible for 15 days leave, 31 July 1919; detached from permanent cadre, 11 December 1919; commenced return to Australia on board A.
