Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Patrick Bourke was the son of William and Margaret Bourke who spent much of their life at Dalby, Queensland. Both parents had passed away many years before the war. Six of Thomas’s brothers served overseas in the AIF, and a younger brother, 3335 Private Thomas Bourke 27th Battalion AIF had been killed in action only four weeks previous to Patrick on 4 August 1916, aged 24.

Patrick gave his sister Mary Agnes Smith of Gympie, Queensland as his next of kin. Mary also attended to the affairs of Thomas Bourke as well.

The other four brothers all eventually returned to Australia, one having been wounded three times.
