Cyril Samuel WILLMOTT was born in 1899 in St Arnaud, Victoria

His parents were William WILLMOTT & Elizabeth Jane AVERY - his Father was born in England & his Mother in Black Lead, Ballarat, Victoria and they had married in 1889 in Victoria

He had 12 months previous service with the Senior Cadets before he enlisted on 14th April, 1915 after putting his age up to enlist - he embarked with the 8th Battalion, 7th Reinforcements from Melbourne on board HMAT Demosthenes on 16th July, 1915

Cyril was wounded on the Somme Battlefield where he contracted pneumonia and died  on 5th February, 1917 aged 17 years,  at the 1st South Midlands Casualty Clearing Station - he is buried in Dermancourt Communal Cemetery & his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial

He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal.

His cousin Clifford Stanley George POLKINGHORNE (SN1402) 8th Infantry Battalion was Killed in Action on 25th April, 1915 and Cliffords brother Reginald Clyde POLKINGHORNE (SN1001) of the Australian Army Medical Corps also served and returned to Australia on 29th October, 1918

Private Cyril S. Willmott, born St. Arnaud, a student at this school, enlisted in 1915.  Died of pneumonia 8th February, 1917 after receiving wounds and lying for two days in "No Man's Land" in France.
