Biography contributed by Bradley Bliss

The son of Edward and Kate Tandy, Ernest Edward Tandy was born in Dubbo in 1887. His parents lived in Blakely Street Orange which no longer exists but is believed to be near the site of the old abattoirs to the north of Orange.  Prior to the war he worked as a miner.

He enlisted for military service on the 18th October 1916 in Bathurst and joined the Australian Infantry 21st Battalion. He achieved the rank of Private.

He died of his wounds on the 2nd September 1918 in the Somme region of France. He was 31 years of age. Sadly Ernest Tandy’s brother, Bertram Lockley Tandy was also killed in World War 1.

Private Tandy was buried at the Daours Communal Cemetery in France.
