Private Percival James Dellar (Service No:VX136813) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V62454) and served with 52 Infantry Battalion and 23/21 Infantry Battalion. Private Dellar served in Darwin, NT from 1 May 1942 to 30 July 1943 and was 'in the field' when he enlisted in the AIF on 23 May 1943. Private Dellar served in New Guinea (28 October 1944 - 28 May 1945) and was attached to 2/4 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 5 December 1945.

Digger was born in Rainbow nr Warracknabeal, Victoria in 1918, fifth of six children of Albert (Bert) Charles Dellar (b1873 in Hamilton, Victoria) and Elizabeth Maude Roberts (b1881 in Minlaton, South Australia). Bert was a Farmer at Willenabrina via Warracknabeal in 1907 when he and Elizabeth married in Warracknabeal. They settled in Willenabrina where they raised their family and Bert was a Farmer. In 1922 Bert was one of several men in the district fined 20/- for failing to vaccinate their children under the Health Act. In the 1930s the family moved to Portland, where Bert was a Merchant.

Digger worked in Portland as a Shop Assistant and in 1940 was a Grocer's Assistant in Altona when he enlisted in the ACMF. In 1941 in Altona he married Mary Millicent Rowan (b1921 in Rainbow, Victoria). Following his Discharge, Digger and Mary settled in Portland where they raised their family and Digger worked as a Grocer's Assistant, Grocer and Storeman. Digger died in 1985 and Mary in 1995.
