Sergeant E.D. Morshead was born in 1893.  Did Manual Arts Course in 1913, then appointed to Ballarat East, St. Arnaud & Donald Schools as woodwork instructor.  Enlisted 20th July 1915, was killed near Fromelle, France on 20th July 1916.

"Sergeant Ernest D. Morshead, son of Mrs. Morshead, Mt. Pleasant, Ballarat East, was born in 1893.

He entered the service of the Education Department as a junior teacher at the Creswick North School in 1910. He went through the Manual Arts Course in 1911-12-13, and completed it with the Trained Teacher's Certificate in Manual Arts, afterwards taking up the duties of woodwork instructor at Ballarat East, St. Arnaud, and Donald. He is recorded as an able, apt, and earnest teacher.

He enlisted on the 20th of July, 1915, and embarked as a Sergeant with the 29th Battalion on the transport Ascanius in November.

After serving in Egypt, he proceeded with his unit to France on the 23rd of June, 1916. He was killed in the fighting near Fromelles on the 20th of July."
