Private Alexander Peebles 26th Battalion
With the exception of the Battalions service on Gallipoli Private Peebles was involved in nearly every major action the 26th Battalion carried out in France from 1916 to 1918.
Wounded once, hospitalised with illness twice, Private Peebles was sent on leave in in late October 1918 and return to his unit in France on the day the Armistice was signed 11November 1918
Awarded the MM for his actions with Lance Corporal West at Peronne.
Held in high regard by his CO his recommendation was issued in the After War list of 1919
By far one of the silent heroes of the Great War

Alexander James PEEBLES was born in Sassafras, Tasmania on 18th November, 1896
His parents were James Robert PEEBLES & Margaret MASON who married on 18th July, 1888 in Barrington, Tasmania
He married Eva May CLOSE in Ulverstone, Tasmania on 29th April, 1924
