His brother, 3886 George Anderson Elford Priest, who also served in the 47th Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Dernancourt on 5 April 1918.
Stuart Priest joined the 47th Battalion at the front during August 1916 and was present at Dernancourt when his brother was killed. He survived over two years on the Western Front and returned to Australia in mid-1919. He died in Brisbane on 24 February 1922, at only 26 years of age.
The son of John and Mary Jane Priest of Wynnum, Queensland, his mother passed away in May 1919, just prior to the return to Australia of Stuart.
