A bread carter from Eaglehawk, Vic prior to enlistment, Pte Eddy had previously served as a Corporal with the Citizen Military Forces at Eaglehawk.

He embarked with the 10th Reinforcements from Melbourne aboard HMAT Osterley on 29 September 1915.

Later transferring to the 57th Battalion, he was killed in action on 2 April 1917 in France, aged 21, and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.

Two cousins, 1024 Pte James Henry Eddy and 5741 Pte John Joseph Prior were also killed in action.
