He went forward with the attack and took part in the fighting for the final objective, after which he helped to establish an observation post and to maintain same throughout the whole operation in spite of heavy enemy artillery and machine gun fire. he continually went forward to the front line, often through heavy barrages, and brought back intelligence of the greatest value.
