Add my storyBiography contributed by Rachael Aldridge
Frank Slater was born in Kettering to THeodore and Harriet Slater in Grafton St, Kettering. He was my fathers Uncle. Had a bit of a reputation- my dad always said he went to Australia for sheep hustling. My Nan called her 1st born Son Frank after him. His nickname was 'Jack' maybe Jack the Lad? He was the 6th of 8 children
He ended up in Australia about 1911 I think, and was living in Oolbun, QLD before signing up.
Story is he visited his parents whilst on leave, but never went out without his uniform on, as he couldn't be arrested by the local police by wearing it.
When we first visited Australi in the 1980's my dad recognised the Glasshouse Mountains as he had seen them on a postcard that Frank had sent to Grace, my Dad's Mum.
I think he died in the 1930's, in Australia
