Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

Frederick George FELTHAM, (Service Number 5693) was born on 29 August 1894 at Concord. His career with the NSW Railways had begun in only November 1915 as a carriage painters’ assistant in the workshops at Eveleigh. He had learned his trade elsewhere as an apprentice with H. Hillier, a firm in Parramatta Road, Camperdown. Less than three months after starting work he was granted leave to join the Expeditionary Forces.
He signed his Attestation Papers on 11 February 1916 and left Sydney aboard HMAT ‘Kyarra’ on 3 June 1916.

He was wounded in action with gunshot injuries to his mouth and he died of those wounds on 13 September at the 53rd Casualty Clearing Station. He was buried at La Chapellette British Cemetery 1¼ miles S of Péronne.

Frederick George FELTHAM (Service Number 5693) was born on 29th August 1894 at Concord. His career with the NSW Railways had begun November 1915 as a carriage painters’ assistant in the workshops at Eveleigh. He had learned his trade as an apprentice with H. Hillier, a firm in Parramatta Road, Camperdown. Less than three months after starting work he was granted leave to join the Expeditionary Forces.

He signed his Attestation Papers on 11th February 1916.

He left Sydney aboard HMAT ‘Kyarra’ on 3rd June 1916. However, he was removed from the transport in Fremantle due to appendicitis. He re-embarked three months later aboard HMAT ‘Clan McGillivray’ and reached Plymouth (England) in early November. He re-joined the 4th Australian Infantry Battalion on 20th December 1916. A week later he was again in hospital and did not rejoin the Battalion until 10th January 1917.  In December 1917 Frederick Feltham was given leave in England. In April 1918 he was promoted to Lance Corporal. In July he had two weeks in a rest camp.

He was wounded in action with gunshot injuries to his mouth. He died of those wounds on 13th September 1918 at the 53rd Casualty Clearing Station. He was buried at La Chapellette British Cemetery 1¼ miles S of Péronne.
