John ('Jack') Henry Tait Shaw was the son of James and Catherine Shaw, a well known family in the Northern NSW area. John was the eldest of eight children. Most of the family served in the 2AIF and Women's Land Army, during WW2, and in the post-WW2 years.
John was a school teacher. After completing his training at Armidale Teachers College he was teaching at a school in Dorrigo in 1934 when he met Ada. They were married in Belligen in 1938.
At the beginning of WW2, John and Ada where living in Federal, a small town outside Lismore, with John teaching in Lismore.
John enlisted in the 2AIF at Paddington, Sydney, on 16 January 1942 and went into the Australian Army Medical Corps. He served in New Guinea and Borneo.
After the war, John resumed his teaching career and held numerous postings before retiring in Sydney. He passed away in 2001. John was my Uncle Jack.
