Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Eric Loveday was the son of Charles Edward and Maud Celia Loveday, of Gympie, Queensland. Charles was a businessman in Gympie, a member of the Gympie Stock Exchange.

Eric served at Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion from early May 1915. He was promoted to Corporal shortly after. He was evacuated sick with debility during late August 1915 but rejoined the 9th Battalion there in late November and stayed until the evacuation.

He was transferred to the 49th Battalion during the reorganisation of the AIF in early 1916. Eric was severely wounded during the last fighting at Mouquet Farm on 3 September 1916. He died of his wounds the next day.

His older brother Captain Arthur Cecil Loveday 15th Battalion AIF returned to Australia in late 1919. Another younger brother, 3239 Private Ivan Lefroy Loveday also served with the 49th Battalion and was returned to Australia wounded in 1918.
