Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Frederick Maddicks was an old soldier, having served in the Queensland Mounted Infantry during the Boer War in South Africa. He enlisted in WW1, at the age of 44 and was noted in his file as a ‘big, heavy man.’ He had been working in the Toowoomba locomotive sheds. He was returned to Australia several months after arriving in England, with chronic bronchitis and as over age.
His 17 year old son, 3638 Private Frederick Thomas Maddicks 47th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Dernancourt, France, on 5 April 1918.
