He was an original member of B Company 11th Battalion AIF
Invalided from Gallipoli with Enteric Fever and discharged permanently unfit in May 1916
Re-enlisted 15 September 1916 and was posted to 51st Battalion AIF with whom he served until wounded during an attack near Ypres on 26 Septemebr 1917
