Gunner Russell Thomas McClure (Service No:WX15580) first served in the Militia (Private; Service No:244377) from 27 February to 22 September 1940, then in the ACMF (Gunner; Service No:W30515) from 8 January to 3 August 1941). Gunner McClure enlisted in the AIF on 4 August 1941 and served with 2nd/3rd Field Regiment in the Middle East (7 November 1941 - 19 February 1943) and with $ Light Anti Aircraft Attack Regiment in New Guinea (3 August 1943 - 12 January 1944). WiA (GSW to knee and thigh) on 16 October 1943, Gunner McClure was evacuated to Sydney and from there to AGH 118 in Perth, where he was medically boarded. Gunner McClure was attached to 4 Australian Light Anti Aircraft Regiment at Discharge on 20 December 1944.
Russel - third of seven children - was born in 1918 in Dumbleyung WA to David George McClure(b1885 in Drummond, Victoria) and Katherine (Kitty) Cecilia Fives (b1884 in County Cork, Island) - Kitty immigrated in 1910, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Orvieto. David (a Carpenter in Wagin, WA) and Kitty (a Domestic at the Hotel Perth) married in 1914 and settled in Dumbleyung where they raised their family and David was a Carpenter/Builder. Kitty and the children moved to Perth in the late 1930s.
Russell worked as a Labourer, and in 1940 was a Carpenter Storeman in Perth when he enlisted in the Army. In 1948 Russell was a Civil Servant (Clerk) in Scarborough, Perth, WA when he married Constance Isabel Reynolds (nee Kelly) b1914 in Greenbushes, WA). Russell and Constance settled in Perth where Russel worked as a Civil Servant (Clerk). Russell died in 1989 and Constance in 1999.
